The efficiency side
Every manager knows that the most importfgdsfgsdgsant resource is people, and one of the key cost driver is the employees. Although very few focus on how to leverage the people better, making them more productive.
The key processes, the bottlenecks of the operation are mostly driven manually. Wasting time on communication and collaboration around the basic key processes, policies. The processes are not clear, the onboarding of new employees is hard, the operation and administration needs additional people at all times.
Key documents are all over the server, on desktops, in mail attachments. There are several instances, versions, everything is hard to find. Wasting time on where to save the documents, and then searching for them.
The inboxes of the people are uncontrolled, no systematic structure, time, task management in place. No real feedback after a task assigned, hard to delegate to people. Meetings all the time. Wasting time arguing on priorities, playing the blame game on missing deadlines; while everybody is super busy.
There is a huge untapped potential in digital marketing, digital sales and digital customer relationship management to either include additional revenue streams, or increase the volume of the existing ones.
The reality in general is the following.
The customers and the markets are not segmented. There is no proper information of their individual needs.
The value proposition is not clear; not unique, just the usual corporate mantras.
The marketing activities are not streamlined, the communication is inconsistent, the low cost digital marketing channels are underutilized.
The sales are more like ad-hoc, no sales funnel defined, campaigns with metrics, conversion rates, goals, activities, feedback loops, automation.
The management of the existing clients are not handled well, no properly automated systems in place to consciously upsell, cross sell.
Even a small company can now have a very decent sets of devices, applications, networks, storage, etc. So the impact of the IT system problems is getting larger and larger.
However for most companies like professional services, commercial companies handling client data extensively, the facts are the following:
No real proven, comprehensive backup solutions are in place. Either important parts of the system are not in the backup set, or the backup processes are ad-hoc, related to the discipline of an employee.
The vulnerability of the information infrastructure is not audited. So no assessment of the sensitive data, no protection plan for the important information, no basic IT security governance is in place.
The corporate information security is not regulated. There are no policies in place, no education, no guidelines for employees about handling information, devices. Usually they use email from their personal devices which are a very high exposure of the key IT systems.
